School Organisation

The whole curriculum is designed and delivered to meet individual needs, whilst incorporating The Early Years Foundation Stage Framework, Pre-Formal, Semi-Formal, Formal and Specialist Autistic Pathways, as well as Post 16 provision.

 

Pre-Formal Pathway

Caters for pupils aged 2-19 with profound and multiple learning difficulties (including multi-sensory and visual impairment) and complex medical needs. The class teacher delivers the vast majority of the curriculum, with P.E. and swimming/hydrotherapy lessons delivered by specialist staff. Pupils follow a highly individual, therapeutic, sensory based curriculum.

Greta Class caters for pupils from Nursery (part time) to KS2.

Norham Class caters for pupils from KS2, KS3 and KS4

Wear Class caters for other Secondary and Post-16 pupils.

 

Specialist Autistic Pathway

Caters for pupils aged 4-19 with autism, complex needs and associated communication and interaction difficulties. The class teacher delivers the vast majority of the curriculum, with P.E. and swimming/hydrotherapy (up to KS3) lessons delivered by specialist staff. Classes are low stimulus, distraction free learning environments and pupils follow a highly individual curriculum with a focus on sensory and emotional regulation along with communication and therapeutic strategies.

Swale Class caters predominantly for EYFS and KS1 pupils.

Tyne Class caters predominantly for EYFS and KS1 pupils.

Tees Class caters predominantly for KS2 pupils.

Eden Class caters predominantly for KS3 pupils.

Stanhope Class caters predominantly for KS3 pupils.

Barnard Class caters predominantly for KS4 and Post-16 pupils.

 

Semi-Formal Pathway

Caters for pupils aged 4-19 with severe learning difficulties, autism and/or complex needs. The class teacher delivers the vast majority of the curriculum, with P.E., swimming (up to KS2) and Create and Make/Enterprise (KS3-5) lessons delivered by specialist staff.

Aln and Tweed Classes cater for EYFS and KS1 pupils following a personalised and child-led; play, nature and sensory-based curriculum, with access to continuous and outdoor provision.

Browney, Coquet, Derwent and Lumley Classes cater for KS2 pupils following a personalised curriculum, including play, sensory and continuous provision where appropriate.

Raby, Hylton, Alnwick and Warkworth Classes cater for KS3 pupils, following a personalised curriculum including play, sensory and continuous provision where appropriate.

Lambton Class, Durham, Bowes and Auckland Classes cater for KS4 pupils following a personalised curriculum, focussing on preparation for adulthood, which includes play, sensory and continuous provision where appropriate.

Langley and Neville Classes cater for Post-16 pupils, following a personalised curriculum, focussing on preparation for adulthood, which includes play, sensory and continuous provision where appropriate.
